Cliff

Cliff Larsen has made a commitment to serve the people of Senate District 50 in Montana by running for the Montana Senate. As a long-term resident of Senate District 50, Cliff understands the increasing complexities of life in our Western Montana community.

Cliff brings a fresh perspective on the creation of jobs and job security with his extensive experience in business. He has created and successfully managed two businesses in Missoula, employing nearly 150 residents in good paying jobs. When elected, Cliff will use his 30 years of business experience and knowledge to help bring more good paying jobs to Missoula.

Cliff brings a broad base of experience in the healthcare arena. From business owner to service provider to healthcare administrator, Cliff’s experience will help him be a strong advocate for the residents of Senate District 50. With rising concerns among our aging population about the “security” in social security and Medicare, the rising cost of medical insurance, and the large numbers of uninsured citizens, Cliff provides solutions that are reasonable and achievable. For instance, an expansion of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is an inexpensive solution to a problem that causes frustration for parents and cost shifting in the health industry.

A Vietnam era veteran and a counselor in the Veteran’s Administration, Cliff has a special understanding of the needs and concerns of military veterans and their families. He will work hard to maintain veterans’ benefits. Serving in the American Legion, Cliff is able to understand the needs of veterans of all wars and service periods.

While working successfully in business, Cliff has found many opportunities to serve the community in fund raising efforts, service on community boards and foundations, and lending a hand with agencies like Habitat for Humanity.

Cliff has a long-standing love and appreciation of nature and the environment. Living on a ranch, Cliff is a prudent steward, while using the land effectively. He was one of the early supporters of the removal of the Milltown dam and represents a reasoned approach to environmental issues. As a member of the Five Valleys Land Trust, Cliff has taken an active stand to address concerns regarding our environment. Cliff keeps himself well advised regarding current issues by using the Clark Fork Coalition for consultation. Cliff has proven it is possible to create good paying, environmentally friendly jobs. Keeping their needs in balance, he can do more as a Montana Senator.

As a former student, instructor, and educator, Cliff is well aware of the issues facing Montana’s school systems. The residents of Senate District 50 face some unique challenges as our schools are rural, urban, and suburban in nature. Cliff has actively worked for educational excellence in K-12 schools. Cliff will work aggressively for our schools and education in the Montana Senate. He formerly taught at two different universities and is a former board member of the University of Montana library. Cliff will work relentlessly to help higher education in Montana. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree and has lectured at the University of Montana.
